It is with the greatest sadness that Professor Jian-Kang Zhang passed away in his sleep on Jan. 17, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Xiaoyan Liu, and his son, Shuai Zhang.

Professor Zhang was respectable, responsible and earnest scholar who had a deep commitment to the educational undertaking. He was generous in his time, his insights and his ideas, both with all his colleagues and numerous students. Whoever had him as a colleague or as a teacher/supervisor will be able to attest to just how generous and thoughtful he was in providing advice and counsel. He had influenced us in many aspects of our lives, not only for his invaluable guidance to our study and research but also for his encouragement, impressive patience and genuine concern for all of us.

We will miss Professor Zhang so much and pass his generous help down to other people in our future lives.
